Evgeni Koroliov is known to be an extraordinary phenomenon on the international piano scene. Without displaying spectacular attitudes, Koroliov convinces his public through an enormous spiritual understanding of the works he performs and in whose service he puts the wide range of his artistic and interpretatory abilities.
His repertoire ranges from Bach, the Wiener Klassik and the works of Schubert, Chopin and Debussy to the modern classics, Messiaen and Ligeti. With a special affinity to Bach Koroliov has often performed his greatest works, also at places such as Salzburger Festspiele Pfingsten+Barock and Concertgebouw Amsterdam. His CD recording of "Art of the Fugue" provoked a memorable reaction from the composer György Ligeti: "If there was only one CD I could take with me to an uninhabited island, I would choose Koroliov's recording of Bach, because even when left pining away with hunger and thirst, I would still listen to this recording again and again, even to my last breath." His recital with Bach's "Goldberg-Variations" at the Bachfest Leipzig was recorded by EuroArts for a DVD. Recently ago Tacet released a CD with works by Bach for piano and piano duo (with his wife) arranged by Kurtág, Liszt and Koroliov. In 2012 he played Mozart concerti with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchester. During the next season he performs, among others with Gidon Kremer and his Kremerata Bach concerti.)
